Dr Memon has research interest in public service organisations and currently serves as a department research ethics lead and as member of Northumbria University's College of Ethics Reviewers. He is also the Workforce Stream Representative for the WHO World Rehabilitation Alliance of which Northumbria University is a member organisation.
Dr Memon is currently a postgraduate external examiner at University of Bradford and Aston University. He also serves on the board of Gosforth Group Federated Academies Ltd. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Prior to joining Northumbria University, he was based at Kingston University (London) where he extensively taught and supervised research on the MSc Leadership and Management in Health programme. Formerly, he taught and supervised on postgraduate programmes at University of Edinburgh and on the Alpha1Education programme at University of Oxford.
He has served as a Research Associate on an Erasmus Plus project (PROPOUND) funded by the European Commission Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) which examined transversal skills development and graduate employability in Europe. His research work has featured in internationally leading journals and has received recognition from bodies including Holyrood, the International Research Society for Public Management, and the Irish Academy of Management.
As a Chartered CIPD practitioner, he has undertaken a diverse portfolio of training and consultancy work with a range of public and private sector organisations in the UK and internationally. This includes evaluations of the 'Leadership Development Programme for NHS commissioners' and the 'NHS-Go app for health literacy in young people', funded under the Healthy London Partnership initiative.
Dr Memon was awarded a PhD from the University of Edinburgh where he examined the management and governance of integrated healthcare service systems. He is a horology and cobblery enthusiast and his alma maters include Keele University, University of Edinburgh, University of Wolverhampton and Drogheda Grammar School.

Dr Memon is interested in aspects of integration and innovation in public services, with a view to how managers learn, innovate and influence governance in public service organisations. More broadly interested in Public Management theory, Social Innovation theory and Qualitative Research methodologies. Areas of research interest include:
