The course has the credibility of
being accredited by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and
the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) (CILT). Such
accreditation facilitates the process of gaining chartered status, which is
associated with higher salaries and promotions.
The Global Logistics Operations Masters course includes a focus on
developing leadership and management competencies. Topics studied include
emotional intelligence, intellectual competence, cultural awareness and the
ability to work in diverse groups and teams. There is a specific focus on
self-development, including formal sessions with our Careers and Employment
Service which offers a range of workshops, one-to-one advice, and networking
opportunities.
In the second year of the course
you’ll be extending your international experience and widening your knowledge
of business topics. You’ll develop an inter-cultural awareness that will help
you stand out from other job applicants. Our network of partners and academic
links will make it easier for you to find the right university in the right
country to suit your interests and aspirations.
A Master’s course that takes two
years, instead of just one, will carry particular weight with employers. They
will understand that you have a deeper understanding of topics, as well as more
experience.
Our graduates typically go into
graduate positions in areas such as; operations management, materials
management, purchasing, advanced logistics, and quality management.
Roles of recent graduates include;
supplier quality manager, continuous improvement manager, procurement manager
and consultant, quality manager and consultant, transport consultant,
distribution services manager, e-commerce operations manager, freight account
manager and logistics project manager.
If you decide to start up your own
business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’
start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.
The course could also lead you to
a postgraduate research degree such as an MPhil, PhD and Professional
Doctorate.
Whatever you decide to do, you
will have the transferable skills that employers expect from a master’s
graduate from Northumbria University. These include the ability to tackle
complex issues through conceptualisation and undertaking research, the ability
to contribute to new processes and knowledge, and the ability to formulate
balanced judgements when considering incomplete or ambiguous data.
