Funding and Scholarship Information for UK Applicants
This information is for both Full and Part-Time students applying to study at Northumbria University in the academic year 2026/27.
Northumbria University is committed to supporting the best students with outstanding academic ability. We offer a number of support packages for students depending on academic achievement or personal financial circumstances; each of the tabs below will provide you with further information.
Financial support opportunities have associated eligibility conditions, therefore it is essential applicants consider all requirements and observe the application process and deadlines carefully.

These scholarship opportunities are funded by donors who Northumbria work in partnership with whose aim is to support students through their higher education journey.
NU Belong - For Carers, Care Leavers and Estranged students
The Student Inclusion Team works with students from specific backgrounds or communities who face personal challenges and experiences which may differ from other students. We recognise that these challenges can often add to worries and pressures and can include financial difficulties alongside managing the commitment of full-time study whilst taking care of personal wellbeing.

Definitions
Home - normally, in order to be classed as a home student, you will need to have been living in the UK for at least three years for purposes other than education and have settled status. Further information can be found by referring to the UKCISA website.
Bursary – a bursary is a means tested financial award given to students who meet the criteria of the scheme. Not all bursaries are given in cash, but could be services or resources of an equivalent financial value.
Scholarship – a financial award given to eligible students who meet the terms and conditions as determined by the scheme.
Sponsorship arrangement - if your fees are being paid in full or part by another sponsor (such as an employer, charity or trust) this will be considered as a sponsorship arrangement.
Self-funding - students who are assuming full responsibility for the funding of their course. Please note students in receipt of a loan from the Student Loan Company are identified as a self-funding student.

The Dogger Bank STEM Scholarship - Applications are now closed
The Dogger Bank Scholarship Programme aims to support STEM students from East Riding of Yorkshire, Redcar & Cleveland, and South Tyneside by alleviating some of the financial burden associated with attending university. This year, there will be 30 scholarships of £5,000 a piece, which will be paid directly to the student (in regular instalments) to minimise costs such as: rent, utility bills, food, books, tuition and other necessities of student life.
