HELENA STAINTHORPE

FASHION BA (HONS)

Middlesbrough-born Helena Stainthorpe has a passion for the high-end streetwear look, being fascinated by androgynous fashion. For her final year collection, the womenswear designer has fused traditional and current sportswear, creating a mixed tailoring concept.

The original inspiration for the collection heralds from the suits worn by Al Capone in the 1920s, for which Helena researched into the history behind the look, revealing the strong links between the iconic pinstripe jacket and traditional sportswear striped suits.

While at University, she completed an internship at the head office of Urban Outfitters, as womenswear design intern. While working for the brand, Helena designed garments which were than manufactured and sold on the shop floor. Several of these items became best sellers; one of which featured in the brand’s press day look book, and another starring in the window display at the Urban Outfitters flagship store on Oxford Street, in London.

She also completed a second placement as a sample room intern at Jenny Packham, in London.
