SM9553 - Student Enterprise: Developing a Venture Team

What will I learn on this module?

This module is the key to your entrepreneurial learning in your second year. The module supports you to develop and grow your venture and enterprising activities through continuing your self-directed approach to learning in a team setting.

You will do this by continuing to work in your coaching team and apply a self-directed approach to your learning. You and your peers will work on growing your ideas by continuing to integrate learning from your other modules. By doing this you will be working on developing your entrepreneurial mindset as well as your ventures or activities. We will also support you to get your venture ready in order to take the Student Enterprise Placement year if you wish.

You will continue to contribute to the all programme activities using this to develop your leadership capabilities.

This module is self-directed so you and your peers will direct your own learning in coaching sessions with support from your team Coach however some of the topics you may cover are;

Venture Development Topics (from Entrepreneurial Management, Entrepreneurial Theory and Creativity and Innovation)
Sale processes
Marketing campaigns
Growth strategies, models and theories
Growing sales through customer relationship management
Operations and logistics

Venture growth topics (From Business Research and Analysis)
Managing customer data for business growth
Marketing and sales for growth

There are several activities which you will take part in across the year, some will be other cohorts on the programme
Bootcamp
Student led enterprise events

How will I learn on this module?

You will learn through weekly coaching sessions. These coaching session allow you to use your venture and enterprising activities to decide which are the most relevant topics for you and will allow you to practise these topics which will develop your learning further.

You will be supported by some lectures to discuss venture growth and development topics as well as entrepreneurial mindset topics.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

Support will be provided to you by a member of academic staff who will act as your Coach and help to facilitate your learning and growing your venture.

The module is supported by a Teaching and Learning Plan which will be developed in collaboration with you and the team at the start of the module.

The eLp will be used as a resource for relevant materials as well as serving as a communication hub for relevant course information, assessment submission and discussion boards.

You will be provided with a specialist electronic reading list that comprises of various materials including reports, book chapters and journal article that showcases the application of a variety of subject materials, however this will develop over the year as your and team identify relevant topics.

What will I be expected to achieve?

Knowledge & Understanding:

You will be able to demonstrate a systematic understanding of key aspects related to venture growth. (MLO 1)

Intellectual / Professional skills & abilities:

Deploy accurately established techniques of business analysis and apply these to your own venture. (MLO 2)

Reflect and apply a range of entrepreneurial mindset topics to you and your team (MLO 3)

Personal Values Attributes (Global / Cultural awareness, Ethics, Curiosity) (PVA):

Demonstrate the ability to manage your own learning, as well as supporting the learning of others by exercising initiative and demonstrating personal responsibility. (MLO 4)

How will I be assessed?

Formative assessment (MLO1,2,3,4)

You will be required to run your own coaching sessions either individually or in a small group.

You will be required to report on your business activity.

You will receive feedback on the above through your venture team

Summative assessment (MLO1,2,3,4)

You will be assessed via two assessments

A 2000 word individual portfolio assignment (75%) SM 1

This assignment will require you discuss how you are going to develop and grow your business or enterprising activity. You will also be required to discuss how the coaching approach has helped you integrate your learning from other modules.

A team presentation (25%) in SM2 discussing the business activity in your coaching team and how the team has supported the growth of these ventures.

Module abstract

On Student Enterprise: Growing a Venture Team you will be supported in a coaching environment to grow your venture and enterprising activities and capture your entrepreneurial learning. You will learn about entrepreneurship by running your own business or engaging in enterprising activities and pulling together your learning from other modules through your coaching sessions. Through these activities you will develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Your learning will be supported by a Team Coach. Using this method of learning allows you to direct and tailor your learning to enable a more transformative experience.

Through this module you will engaging in practical activities such as an entrepreneurial bootcamp and you will work with other students across all three years on the student led enterprise events.

We have designed Student Enterprise: Growing a Venture to support you to grow your venture and enterprising activity by continuing to provide a practical environment for your entrepreneurial learning.
