Maryam Garba

Lecturer

Department: Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering

I am a Lecturer in Statistics in the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering. I joined the Department in May 2023; prior to that I was Lecturer at Newcastle University. My PhD was in information geometry for phylogenetic trees.

Maryam Garba

I am interested in developing (non-Euclidean) geometric statistical methods for the analysis of data sets of phylogenetic trees. This methodology has a natural extension to graph-valued data, with an increasing number of problems in transport networks, genes, and neurology. I am also working with colleagues at Newcastle University to find early indicators of Parkinson's disease by analysis muscle activation patterns.
