Dr Gomez Arana joined Northumbria University as a Senior Lecturer in International Relations in May 2020.
She has also taught at other Universities in the UK. In 2015 she was a visiting lecturer at Bamberg University (Germany) as part of the Erasmus+ staff mobility programme. And she has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Salamanca (Spain). She has two PhD completions (2021 and 2025) and has supervised more than a 100 dissertations.
She has published with Manchester University Press in 2017 The European Union's policy towards Mercosur: Responsive not strategic (Open Source) and in 2022 Latin America-European Union relations in the twenty-first century (together with Dr. Maria Garcia, Bath University). And she has also received external funding for different projects.
In addition, Dr. Gomez Arana collaborates with external partners such as Fundacion Carolina and the EU-LAC Foundation. And was previously a Trustee and Elected Committee Member of UACES, a Co-convener of BISA European Security Working Group and of the Foreign Policy Working Group. Finally, she is also a member of Gridale
Dr. Gomez Arana has published extensively on:

- European Union-Latin America and the Caribbean relations
- European Union - Mercosur/Andean/Central America relations
