Accredited Living Wage Employer

Northumbria University is a Real Living Wage employer – accredited by the Living Wage Foundation. 

Since 2022, employees at Northumbria have been paid at or above the Real (voluntary) Living Wage. The accreditation in 2024 officially recognised this as a long term commitment to our valuable employees, casual workers and regularly subcontracted workers.  

Set independently by the Living Wage Foundation, the Living Wage is the only UK hourly rate of pay based on the real cost of living. It is intended to allow people to provide for themselves and their families and is paid voluntarily by over 15,000 UK businesses. The University is proud to have terms and conditions that are among the very best in the Higher Education sector. In recent years we have introduced improved maternity and paternity pay and harmonised annual leave entitlements to seven weeks (35 days per annum for full time colleagues), alongside greater opportunities for flexible working, development and progression.
