What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?
Northumbria University stood out to me because of its strong reputation for academic excellence, its global perspective, and its welcoming environment for international students. The MSc in International Development studies (now MSc Global Development) is highly regarded and attracts students from diverse professional and academic backgrounds, which promised a rich learning environment.
What was it like studying at Northumbria?
Studying at Northumbria has been a wonderful experience. The university offers a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere where students from all over the world come together. The learning environment is dynamic, with engaging lectures, interactive seminars, and opportunities for real-world application of knowledge. The campus facilities are modern and accessible. The diversity of the student body and the collaborative approach to learning have enriched my academic and personal growth.
What has impressed you most about our academic staff?
The academic staff at Northumbria are not only qualified and experienced in their fields, but they are also passionate about teaching and student success. They bring a wealth of practical and research experience to the classroom, often involving students in current debates and real-world issues in international development. The staff are approachable and supportive in and out of the classroom, always willing to provide guidance and feedback, which has greatly enhanced my learning experience.
What was the best thing about your course?
The best aspect of my course has been the emphasis on case studies combined with interactive sessions. This approach has enabled me to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, deepening my understanding of complex issues in international development. The interactive nature of the sessions encourages active participation, critical thinking, and collaboration among students from diverse backgrounds. This has not only enriched classroom discussions but also helped me develop practical skills that are directly relevant to the field.
If you had to give a new student one piece of advice what would it be?
My advice to new students would be to make the most of the diverse opportunities available at Northumbria-both academically and socially. Engage actively in your classes, connect with your lecturers and peers, and participate in workshops and events. Don’t hesitate to seek support when needed, and take advantage of the university’s resources to enhance your learning and personal development. Building a strong network and staying open to new experiences will make your time at Northumbria truly memorable and rewarding.
