Dr Vikki Park

Assistant Professor

Department: Nursing, Midwifery & Health

Dr Vikki Park is Assistant Professor for Nursing and IPECP (Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice) in the Department of Nursing Midwifery & Health (NMH). The role involves faculty leadership for IPE, leading interprofessional learning across a wide suite of health and social care professional programmes. Additional roles include module leadership in the Advanced Clinical Practice Masters of Nursing programme, and teaching, assessing and supporting undergraduate nursing students.

Background
Vikki is a registered adult nurse; her healthcare career started in 1999 and after working predominantly within critical care, in 2010 Vikki became a full-time educator and taught for a year in a Further Education College. She has worked in Higher Education since 2011 in two northeast universities: Northumbria University and the University of Sunderland. Previous roles and responsibilities included teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes, being an academic assessor for nursing students, leading the Gateshead Practice Learning Team and being a Higher Education Academy / Advance HE (HEA) mentor for colleagues. Additional responsibilities included being a Programme Leader and Module Leader for Level 7 International MSc Nursing modules, Module Leader for a cross field Level 5 Nursing Practice module, and several advocacy roles such as Departmental Lead for the Parent and Carer Network and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion for Parents and Carers.

Qualifications PhD., PG Dip., PG Cert., BSc (Hons), RN, RNT, SFHEA, HEA Mentor 
Prior to working in Higher Education, Vikki was awarded a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies, Post Graduate Certificate in Practice Development, a Post Graduate Diploma in Academic Practice Development and Professional Learning, gained status as a Fellow of the HEA, and became an NMC Registered Nurse Teacher. She was awarded her PhD in March 2021, and her thesis is entitled: 'Learning in Critical Care: A Focused Ethnography of Interprofessional Learning Culture'. Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA) awarded in 2023.

 

Vikki Park

Vikki’s research interests focus upon interprofessional learning, specifically within the critical care environment and in relation to workforce development and education. Vikki is interested in qualitiative research methodologies, with expertise in ethnography.

National and International Roles
Vikki is aligned to several national and international IPECP organisations. Vikki was appointed as a National Board member of CAIPE (the Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education) in July 2021 following member election, and she is the Co-Chair of the CAIPE Research Priority Group. Prior to internal restructuring, Vikki was a CAIPE research working group member and IPE Standards working group member. Internationally, in December 2022, Vikki was elected to the Steering Committee as Co-Chair of the Communications group of IPR.Global (Interprofessional Research.Global). She was previously a working group member of IP.Global Capacity Building, and was a member of the IP.Global Café planning group which disseminates IPECP research and scholarly practice across global networks. 

Scholarly Interests
In addition to IPECP, principal areas of scholarly interest include simulation based education, critical care nursing, communication and interpersonal skills, and clinical skills development. Vikki is also interested in the use of creative writing in relation to health care experiences, reflection and practitioner development. She contributed to the publication of a regional anthology of poetry and has delivered regional and national workshops on this topic, as well as being awarded the BACCN 2016 National Poster Prize.

External Organisational Affiliations
In addition to CAIPE, IPR.Global and IP.Global, Vikki has experience as a Trustee of the British Association of Critical Care Nurses and was appointed as Treasurer for the BACCN Northern Regional Committee. Vikki is also affiliated with a number of other professional organisations including NoECCN (North of England Critical Care Network), INHWE (International Network for Health and Workforce Education) and the Northeast and North Cumbria Integrated Care System IPE development group.

Professional Expertise
Vikki was an adult critical care reviewer for the Nursing in Critical Care journal for 3 years (2020-2023). In 2021, she successfully secured a consultancy role supporting Staffordshire University academics to integrate IPECP into their health and social care curriculum. Vikki is an External Examiner for Glasgow Caledonian University for several interprofessional modules.
