Dr Steven Pattinson

Associate Professor

School: Newcastle Business School

Steven is an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship. He has over two decades of experience teaching and research. His research interest is in relational entrepreneurship as a framework for understanding entrepreneurial process. His work focuses on how entrepreneurs build and leverage relationships that create sustainable value for firms and that help address pressing grand societal challenges. He has published in leading international journals such as the British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Research, Management Learning, Industrial Marketing Management, and Journal of Management Inquiry.

Steven has worked on a number of research projects funded by Research England, Arts and Humanities Research Council, UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund, Higher Education Innovation Fund, Institute for Local Governance, Gateshead Council, National Offender Management Service (North East) and Enterprise Educators UK.

He is the Teaching Case Study Editor for The International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and was Associate Editor (Entreprenruship) for the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing from 2022-2025. He is an Editorial Review Board member for Industrial Marketing Management.

Steven Pattinson

Steven is an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship. 

My research interest is in relational entrepreneurship as a framework for understanding entrepreneurial process. My work focuses on how entrepreneurs build and leverage relationships that create sustainable value for firms and that help address pressing grand societal challenges. I have published in leading international journals such as the British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Research, Management Learning, Industrial Marketing Management, and Journal of Management Inquiry.

As a research focused academic, Steven recognizes the importance of providing students with a rich learning experience by using both disciplinary and pedagogic research in his teaching. Steven views academic theory and practice as inseparable, with empowerment a key factor to enhancing learning, and therefore seeks to create productive learning environments using ‘real life’ case studies.

He has worked on a number of research projects in economic development and social enterprise funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, Institute for Local Governance, Gateshead Council, National Offender Management Service (North East) and Enterprise Educators UK.

He is the Teaching Case Study Editor for The International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Associate Editor (Entreprenruship) for the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing. He is also an Editorial Review Board member for Industrial Marketing Management.
