Nikolaos (Nicholas) Pappas holds the position of Professor of Tourism Development and Crisis Management at Newcastle Business School (NBS), Northumbria University, and serves as Co-Director of ATHENA (Association of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Networks in Academia). He holds a doctorate (PhD) in Tourism Planning and Development, and a post-doctorate (PDoc) in Risk and Crisis Management.

 

He began his career in the tourism and hospitality industry in 1990, while also engaging in entrepreneurial consultancy for a decade between 2001 and 2010. Since 2001, he has pursued an academic career in higher education, accumulating extensive experience across multiple institutions in both Greece (including the Technological Education Institute of Crete, the Hellenic Open University, and EKDDA) and the United Kingdom, where he has been affiliated with the University of Derby, the University of Northampton, Leeds Beckett University, the University of West London, and the University of Sunderland.

 

Since 1998, Nicholas has been actively involved in research projects funded at both national and international levels. His scholarly output includes numerous publications in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals, as well as contributions to international scientific conferences. Currently, he acts as Associate Editor in Event Management journal and in the Frontiers in Sustainable Tourism journal, whilst he is a member of the editorial board in the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the Strategic Change journal.
