OCTOBER 2024 - Black History Month Special 

Get work experience! Be one of 10,000 Black Interns  

Date/Time: Monday 7 October, 12 – 1pm

Location: Virtual

The 10,000 Interns Foundation challenges the under-representation of Black talent in the workplace; creating equity of opportunity through its internship programme. Come along to learn about the Foundation's mission, gain insight into the internship programme, and discover how to create a stellar application. This is a chance to get your questions answered and maximise your chances of success - don't miss out!

Black History Month: Meet the Employers

Date/Time: Monday 14 October, 4 - 6pm 

Location: Student Skills Centre 1, Student Central, City Campus

Come along to network with professionals of Black heritage and connect with employers who prioritise diversity and inclusion within their organisation. 

At this event, you will:

  • Meet with professionals of Black heritage, working across a range of roles and industries;
  • Hear from employers who are committed to diversity and inclusion within their organisation and actively seeking to recruit Black heritage talent; and
  • Discover about graduate opportunities available at regional and national employers, including KPMG, Accenture, Home Group and the NHSBSA.

Rooted in Royalty Black History Month Workshop

Date/Time: 1st October at 1pm

Location: Northumbria Students Union. 

Join us at the beginning of Black History Month to celebrate and learn from local Black business owners and artists. Speakers will share with us their inspiring journey to become the entrepreneurs they are today. The event is free but you need to register to get a ticket.

Lying Perfectly Still Book Launch

Date/Time: 24th October 6:30 -7:30pm

Location: Business and Law Building, Lecture Room 003. 

Northumbria University academic and Orange Prize longlisted author, Laura Fish launches her latest novel this Black History Month. Lying Perfectly Still explores themes of identity, culture clashes and wealth disparity.

COBO Comedy Shutdown

Date/Time: October 26th 8pm

Location: The Stand Comedy Club Newcastle

Comedy Shutdown proudly presents our Black History Month Special, hitting venues across the UK this October! Gather your friends and family for an unforgettable evening of uproarious laughter and celebration. Acts include: Richard Blackwood (MTV, ITV, BBC, CH4, Diesel (Comedy Store, COBO Highlight), Gbemi Oladipo (BBC New Comedian of the Year Nominee) and Kazeem Jamal (The Blackout, SE London Powerhouse).

Date/Time: 5th and 6th of October 

Location: Ferndale Road, Brixton, London. 

Join Black Culture Market this October event for their exciting Black History Month event. Black Culture Market is the destination to support and shop from Black-owned businesses in Brixton.

London Literature Festival

Date/Time: 23rd October 

Location: Southbank Centre, London. 

London Literature Festival begins with a line-up of debut writers, including Kaliane Bradley, Hannah Regel, Tom Lamont and Varaidzo, chaired by Barry Pierce.
