History

Where are you from?

Tarleton, Lancashire

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I chose Northumbria as it has a good reputation for History, and I really like Newcastle as a city to study for three years.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is a fantastic city and has plenty of things to keep people busy and entertained. I enjoyed going to St James' Park.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

I was surprised how close everything is in Newcastle. I thought the city was much bigger than it is, but is so easy to get around the city centre.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, it was very easy to make the transition from sixth form to university. Both the staff and other students were all very friendly.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

Living in a great city and studying an enjoyable course

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

The History staff have been very helpful since I started my degree. Any questions I had they were easily contactable and responded quickly with helpful advice.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?

Representing Team Northumbria and beating Newcastle University in the Stan Calvert Cup.

What is the best thing about your course?

Learning new historical facts and becoming more knowledgeable on topics I've never studed before.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Plan your time effectively to avoid doing all-nighters.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

My History degree has helped me develop skills that allow me to efficiently read and analyse a document and find out it ssignificance. This will be very helpful in my future career in law.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I had a work experience placement at Ward Hadaway over Easter. It was very helpful as it gave me experience into what work I will be expected to do in the future as well as working in an office environment.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Manage your time effectively.

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes!
