Fee Liability

Important information for Northumbria students who wish to exit their programme of study early.

2023/24 & 2024/25

UK Students

Fee Liability for UK Students with 'Home' fee status

All  students who cease or pause their programme of study* at Northumbria University, will be liable to pay a tuition fee depending on the term in which you cease or pause your programme:

  • During term 1 you will be charged 25% of the total academic year’s fee
  • During term 2 you will be charged 50% of the total academic year’s fee
  • During term 3 you will be charged 100% of the total academic year’s fee
  • (Term dates will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for Research students, to recognise flexible start dates)

    Scholarships for UK students

    If you cease or pause your programme of study* and have been awarded a scholarship, Northumbria will cancel the scholarship award as soon as notified. If an instalment of the scholarship award has been paid, then the remainder will be cancelled. Northumbria will not ask to be reimbursed for instalments that have already been paid to you.

    *This includes through interruption, withdrawal, exclusion, suspension or expulsion from your programme of study. 

    International & EU Students

    Fee Liability for International and EU students with 'Overseas' Fee Status

    All International and EU students who cease or pause their programme of study* at Northumbria University, will be liable to pay tuition fees depending on when you pause or cease your programme:

    • If you withdraw between four weeks after the start date of your programme and the end of your first term a minimum of 50% of your tuition fees for the academic year are payable by you.
    • If you withdraw after the end of your first term, the full fees for the academic year are due.

    Scholarships for International and EU students

    If you have been awarded a scholarship it will be indicated in your unconditional offer letter. If you withdraw part-way through the academic year your scholarship discount will be applied pro-rata to the amount of fees you owe.

    *This includes through interruption, withdrawal, exclusion, suspension or expulsion from your programme of study.
