Information about Northumbria's involvement with the Erasmus scheme

The United Kingdom will associate to the Erasmus+ programme from 2027 onwards. Northumbria University is proud to maintain strong ties with Europe through our extensive European Partnerships.

This page will continue to be updated as we look to reassociate with Erasmus+ from 2027 onwards. If you are interested in taking part in any form of international mobility at Northumbria, please visit our homepage for prospective students or the student portal for current students.

Northumbria University already has existing agreements with European partners. To reassociate, the University has applied for an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) and will apply for funding from September 2027 onwards if successful.

As part of our strategic ambitions staff mobility and KA2 collaborative projects will continue and enhance our current achievements:

  • Top 30 for quality in Research Excellent Framework (REF) 2029.
  • Top 20 for research power in REF 2029.
  • Currently 80% of our research is rated internationally excellent or world leading.
  • 54% of REF submissions impacting communities outside of the UK.

We are currently finalising the staff mobility and collaborative projects related policies and processes.  These will be available as soon as possible. You can read examples of activities we have undertaken which highlight principles important for ERASMUS+ on this page.

Northumbria also strive to be a sustainable institution having been rated as ‘1st class’ for sustainability and ranked the most sustainable university in the North East for five consecutive years. You can read more about Northumbria's commitment to sustainability here.
