Our Alumni - Work For Us
"I have felt the need more urgently than ever to pursue a master’s degree in Space Law. To actualize this quest, I enrolled for the program in 2022 at the esteemed Northumbria University in Newcastle. I approached the institution with an open mind and a desire to learn everything I could. My testament is that every lecture I attended, and the workshops I participated in seemed to provide a new perspective or depth to the subjects, cultures, and interests of space law.
Studying space law at Northumbria University allowed me to learn more about a field of law that has an impact on almost every facet of our civilization today and in the future. Compared to other higher education endeavors, I found the university's significant time commitment and learning environment to be far more fulfilling. It provided me with an opportunity to meet imminent researchers and tutors like Prof. Christopher J. Newman, Dr. Fabio Tronchetti and Lauren J. Napier whose encouragement and motivation has been of great help to me.
Since graduating with distinction in space law, I have joined various space law groups like Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), UK Students in the Exploration and Development of Space (UKSEDS), International Institute of Space Law (IISL) and the Nigerian Space Law Association in an effort to positively impact space-related issues. My discovery is that participating in these groups was the ideal way to combine my passion for space law and policy with my previous legal expertise. As a result, I have been able to attend conferences and seminars, co-author papers, and collaborate with business executives to develop best practices and new space legislation. I am positively looking forward to pursue a post-doctoral degree (PhD) in space law.
My advice for present and aspiring space law students is to spend some time investigating various intersections of space law and constantly have an open mind. You will be astounded at the outcome when you put in this kind of effort."
EMEKA VICTOR IBENEME (2022/2023 SPACE LAW CLASS)
"Northumbria is one of the few places that actually teaches Space law as a module and allows you to study it in a dissertation. The best thing about doing a dissertation in space law, was that I had the freedom to explore exactly what I wanted to do and make it relevant by applying it to current conflicts. The tutors and professors in this course really help you break down what exactly it is you want to learn and guide you to how you will achieve your goals.
The AI module was fantastic because not only were the tutors engaging, but the students were keen to learn and contribute in class. Contributions in such discussions around AI defiantly expanded my own thoughts and I wouldn’t have made some connections to ideas without the discussions in class".
