NORTHUMBRIA LANGUAGE CENTRE

Northumbria Language Centre includes all English and Modern Foreign Language (UniLang) teaching within the University.

  • We are ranked in the top 100 language centres in the UK (El Gazette 2018)

  • Our Modern Foreign Languages courses were voted 3rd highest for student satisfaction in 2011, behind only Oxford  University and Cambridge University and were voted #1 for student satisfaction for course, teaching, and feedback and voted best ‘new’ university for languages. (The Guardian League Table 2015)

  • We offer Pre-sessional English language courses for students wishing to gain the language requirements to study foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate degree level at Northumbria University

  • We provide continuing English language and study skills support for international students throughout their degree programmes (see our Academic Language Skills courses)

  • We offer joint undergraduate language (French/Spanish) degree programmes in International Business in conjunction with Newcastle Business School. See our Modern Foreign Languages pages for more information.

  • We offer a range of language modules, which can be studied as one of the options on your degree programme. For more information, see our webpage for Unilang (University-wide Language For All)

  • We provide bespoke short courses which can be tailored to match requested specifications, whether academic or professional. Short courses include English language, culture and communication, academic English and English for specific purposes e.g. professional communication for medical professions
