Collaborate: Your Virtual Classroom

What is Blackboard Class Collaborate?

Teaching sessions, such as lectures and workshops, will be an essential part of your studies. These take place in a physical classroom on campus, or in a ‘virtual classroom’ online. Blackboard Class Collaborate is your virtual classroom where you will take part in live, online teaching sessions. Sometimes referred to as simply Collaborate.

Collaborate makes it easy for you to attend online teaching from any location, using any device. It’s your virtual classroom that enables you to take part in your lectures, seminars, and workshops from within Blackboard.

When will I use Class Collaborate?

You will use Class Collaborate all the way through your studies here at Northumbria University. The regular teaching sessions that take place during your course can be run via Class Collaborate, so it is essential that you get used to using it on a regular basis.

As well as online lectures, your course may also use Collaborate to offer:

  • Virtual drop-in sessions, where you can ask for help and advice from your tutors.
  • Online group work, where you and other students can work on group projects.
  • One to one interviews or assessments.

Class Collaborate will be a tool that you will quickly become used to using as a Northumbria student. It will be a familiar feature throughout your studies and will help you to easily access your learning.

How do I access and use Class Collaborate?

Collaborate is built into Blackboard, Northumbria University’s virtual learning environment. This makes it easy to use and access. There is no need to install any extra software on your device.

Collaborate is designed to be easy to use and it is a system that Northumbria students become familiar with very quickly.
