Prior to joining Northumbria in 2009, Steve taught Sociology at the universities of Nottingham Trent and Durham before working as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Principal Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Teesside (1994-2007 and as Head of Department of Sociology there from 2002-06), and as a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Sociology at the University of Salford (2007-09). He has held senior roles within the British Sociological Association (BSA), the major learned society for British sociologists, including Chair of the BSA Publications Committee and Vice Chair of the BSA Executive Committee. Steve was previously an Associate Dean and Head of the Department of Social Sciences at Northumbria.
