Assistant Professor

Department: Architecture and Built Environment

Stephen Roberts is an Architect and Assistant Professor in architecture. He studied at the University of Humberside and Leeds Metropolitan University and has over 20 years of architectural experience in public and private practice across housing, educational and community-based projects. During his tenure at Northumbria University, Stephen has taught on and authored content for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. More recently interests exploring landscape futures motivated his award-winning  MArch design studio ‘This Enduring Landscape’. He is also a visiting critic.

Current research practice-led research explores how often-overlooked heritage infrastructures in the North East of England might be reconfigured to provide alternative, regionally focused solutions to the global climate crisis.  This research is bounded within broader, cross disciplinary explorations of alternative methods of farming, land occupation and socio-political strategies.
