Dr Julius Jooste

Assistant Professor

Julius obtained his PhD in 2017 from the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus) in his native country South Africa, in which he explored the essential competencies in contemporary applied sport psychology and the role of mindfulness in athlete-centred service delivery.

Julius’s independent and collaborative research is driven by his interest in promoting scientific understanding on the psycho-social factors that impact on athletes’ and coaches’ performance and wellbeing in sport.

Julius joined Northumbria University in April 2019 as a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology and is currently the Programme Leader for the MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology programme. Julius is a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and a member of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology. He has consultancy experience working with athletes/teams ranging from grassroots to national level.
