Peter Dryden

Peter -Dryden ,-Northumbria -University -webPeter specialised in Children’s Nursing before becoming a Children and Young People’s Specialist Nurse for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).  Peter’s passion for education and training led to him gaining a MSc in Education before joining the faculty as a full time Senior Lecturer. 

Pete has worked on a number of National and Regional developments such helping to develop National Institute Clinical Excellence (NICE) standards for IBD. Peter was also part of the RCN working group for paediatric IBD with other colleagues from across the UK. Peter is a member of the British and European Societies of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (BSPGHAN/ESPGHAN).  Recent research was to identify ‘clusters’ of children in the North East of England living with IBD by postcode and date of birth. This will lead on to further epidemiological study.

Within his role as a Senior Lecturer Peter is a Guidance Tutor, Module lead, and also contributes to several other modules across the three year nursing curriculum. Peter also contributes to several modules in the CPD portfolio. He is passionate about improving patient safety and developing and supporting students to become highly competent, confident and compassionate nurses while also continuing to nurture this development following graduation in the form of CPD. 

Peter is currently undertaking his PhD following on from his previous work looking into epidemiology and Paediatric IBD.
