Dr Carlos Conde Solares

Associate Professor

Department: Humanities

Carlos is currently Programme Leader for BA History. He is the author of three monographs on cultural and theosophical aspects of the history of medieval and early modern Spain; he has co-edited and contributed to international collective volumes, and published articles in two languages in peer-reviewed journals across different countries. Carlos is a regular contributor to international press, and has written opinion pieces in El Mundo, The Globe Post, Cronica Popular, The ESRC's UK in a Changing Europe and The Conversation among many other outlets. He has made guest appearances in Al Jazeera, France 24, TRT and other TV channels. Carlos currently chairs the academic think tank Foro de Profesores, with over 500 active members in 14 countries.

Carlos is current involved in a collective project entitled The Rise of the Republic of Letters, together with colleagues from the Universities of Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), Complutense (Madrid), Salamanca, Oxford, Queen Mary (London), Columbia, Lyon and Georgetown. His individual contribution to this research cluster is The Antisemitic Myth of the Jewish Puppetteer, as study of the origins of the Antisemitic trope of the Jewish government in the shadows of power.

His latest work has focused on the interactions between the spiritual systems of Christianity, Judaism and Islam in late medieval Spain.
