Suicide among the Armed Forces and Veteran Population: Understand-Identify-Prevent

Co-production Workshop

Thursday 30th June 2022, 10.00am - 15.00pm

You are invited to attend a co-production workshop as part of Phase Two of our research project that aims to reduce suicide among the Armed Forces and Veteran population. The workshop is the second of a series of workshops across the United Kingdom. The overarching objective is to co-produce an integrated model of safety, using a collaborative approach to identify, manage and reduce the risk of suicide.

The day will provide an opportunity to continue to develop a model of intervention for suicide, building on the findings from the first co-production workshop (Newcastle, March 2022).

The workshop will include the views of bereaved families, selected experts and representatives from the health and social care sector across North Wales as well as key stakeholders (Local Authorities, Police, Local Health Boards, Veterans organisations, Public Health Wales). The most important aspect of the co-production event is that the research team will not provide answers but will share data from Phase One (narrative, lived-experience interviews with bereaved families/significant others), feedback from the first co-production event and facilitate the discussions of those who take part on the day.

Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, the project has been designed in collaboration with military families who have been bereaved by suicide. The research project is supported by a consortium and includes, The Baton Charity, For the Fallen and a dedicated research team from Northern Hub for Veterans and Military Families Research and Worcester University.

The order of the day will follow registration as well as transport information.

Professor Matthew Kiernan, Director of the Northern Hub for Veterans and Military Families Research
