Peter Thomas

Peter Thomas is the University's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO.) He joined Northumbria in January 2023, and is responsible for Global Marketing and Business for the University and its satellite campuses. This includes Data and Insight, Student Recruitment and Sales, Sales and Business Development, Brand Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Reputation Management and Transnational Education (TNE.)

Peter has spent over 30 years working for some of the largest blue chip companies in the world, mostly in global or pan-European marketing and communications roles. Peter started his working life in the PR agency world, working with major technology brands, culminating in his role as the European Technology Practise lead for Hill & Knowlton. More recently, Peter has held roles at Bloomberg and the Rugby Football Union- both in corporate communications leadership roles, and most significantly at Accenture (over two different spells,) where he was the UK and European CMO and a member of the European board.

Over his career, Peter has developed expertise in areas including reputation management, leadership communications, media relations, crisis and issues management, employee engagement, government relations, and digital marketing strategy and execution.

Peter graduated from Aston Business School with a Bsc in Managerial and Administrative Studies and is a member of a number of CMO communities, and has been recently featured in Marketing Week's Top 100 Marketers.
