Study Design

Undergraduate and Postgraduate study options at the Northumbria School of Design.

At the School of Design we have a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses to choose from which cover the discipline areas industrial design, fashion design, and design innovation.

Whilst learning the skills and knowledge you will need to continue into a professional career you will also build great interpersonal skills by joining a vibrant creative community which encourages collaborations and idea sharing between our design courses so that you get the best learning experience.

Our undergraduate degrees in Design provide a comprehensive education that lays a solid foundation for a successful career in the creative industry. These programs combine theoretical insights with hands-on experiences, nurturing students' creativity, conceptual thinking, and technical proficiency. By emphasizing collaboration, real-world projects, and exposure to industry practices, Northumbria's undergraduate design degrees empower students to emerge as well-rounded, adaptable professionals equipped to make a meaningful impact in the dynamic world of design. Our Masters in Design degrees cater to a diverse range of design interests, fostering innovation and preparing graduates to tackle complex design challenges with confidence.

You’ll learn in dedicated studio spaces using our range of professional facilities including access to professional exhibition spaces, industrial woodwork and metal workshops, sewing and print workshops and computer suites with full Adobe and Cad packages.  Alongside our community of teaching staff with experience and knowledge as designers, technicians, craftsmen, journalists, scholars and educators you’ll also learn from high-calibre visiting designers and design professionals including many with an international reputation as experts in their field.

Industry Experience

We recognise that industry experience and contacts are invaluable to you and so have built strong relationships and partnerships with cultural and creative organisations including Abercrombie & Fitch, Microsoft, Mars, Dunhill, Mulberry, Samsung, Unilever, Phillips, Nike and Intel, with opportunities for educational visits, work placements, site visits and industry lectures.  You’ll also get the chance to show your work at our industry attended degree showcase REVEAL and, for some of our courses, at top graduate shows in London such as New Designers, Graduate Fashion Week and Free Range.
