Public Sector Leadership, Partnerships and Entrepreneurship

(Liddle, Shutt, Elliott and Johnston) Liddle and Shutt are founder members of a national Think Tank (Centre for Partnering Group) in collaboration with the University of Oxford (Blavatnik), Cardiff, Stirling, and MMU,, and part of the UK Cabinet Office National Centre for Leadership

Colleagues are working closely with some Northern MPs across the Northern Powerhouse on social and economic issues post Brexit Planning (Liddle, Shutt and Cabras hosted a one day Roundtable in the House of Commons in June 2019), and with regional agencies on a post Covid 19 Recovery

This strand of work built on a successful regional seminar ‘Day One-After Brexit’ hosted in Northumbria on 29 March 2019; attended by 100 delegates from a range of national and regional public/private and voluntary sector agencies, and the national Joint University Council/Public Administration and Social Work Education Council Annual Conference between 16-17th September 2019.

Current work includes a comparative research project on city leadership and Universities in Newcastle, Amsterdam, and London City Regions, Mayoral Governance and Combined Authorities in the Northern Powerhouse, Cabinet Office National Leadership Centre (Liddle, Lowe, Blenkinsopp and Hesselgreaves are leading a Northumbria/Newcastle initiative), House of Commons Centre for Partnership (Liddle is working with Universities of Oxford, Stirling, Cardiff and MMU on developing this research partnership, and £4m ESRC project bid is in development) and work is on-going on post COVID economic and social impacts and on the Future of the North East region after Brexit.
