Applications for most courses should be made direct to the University via our online application form. Simply click on the 'Apply Online' button you will see on each of our course webpages. Find out more information on our Application Guide.
Whilst most of our courses do not set an exact deadline for applications, you are advised to apply early to secure your place and organise any sponsorship or funding. If you need detailed guidance on what you need to apply for postgraduate courses, please refer to our comprehensive Application Guide.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in teaching, there are a variety of routes you can choose from. These depend on the level at which you want to teach and also the nature by which you want to study.
All applicants for teacher training must apply directly to UCAS.
Primary Education
- Undergraduate - BA Primary Education [X120] - This qualification is studied full-time over three years and provides students with both an undergraduate degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This is aimed at teaching children aged 5 to 11 years old.
- Postgraduate - Any undergraduate degree (1st or 2:1), a minimum of 10 - 15 days school experience, and; Primary Education PGCE [X100] - This qualification is studied full-time over one year and is aimed at teaching children aged 5 to 11 years old. Early Primary PGCE [X103] - This qualification is studied via distance learning, either full-time over one year or part-time over two years. Prior to commencing, students need to decide between teaching children aged 3 - 7 or 5 - 11 years old.
Secondary Education
- Undergraduate - No direct undergraduate route into secondary education.
- Postgraduate - Any undergraduate degree (1st or 2:1), a minimum of 10 - 15 days school experience, and: Secondary Education: Art, Craft and Design PGCE [N77 W1X1] - This qualification is studied full-time over one year and is delivered in partnership with schools, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Coach Lane Campus and other artist studios and workshops. Secondary Education: Physical Education PGCE [N55 X966] - This qualification is studied full-time over one year and is delivered in partnership schools [NEP N55].
Postgraduate Certificate Education (PGCE) requires students to complete two assignments at level 7 and also train for QTS status. Students who are unable to pass the assignments at level 7 are assessed at level 6 where they are awarded a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (which includes QTS).
For the Legal Practice Course (LPC) / Common Professional Examination and the Graduate Diploma in Law (CPE/GDL), you should apply directly to the Law Central Applications Board at least six months in advance of the course start date. LPC applicants must also register with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
For the Bar Vocational Course (BVC), you should apply directly to the Bar Council at least nine months in advance of course start.
- For Social Work, you should submit your application directly to the university using the online form on the course webpage at least nine months in advance of the course start date [i.e. January entries should be submitted by the previous 31st March]
- Physiotherapy applications should be submitted directly to the university using the online form on the course webpage at least 11 months in advance of the course start date
- Nursing applications should be submitted directly to the university using the online form on the course webpage at least one month in advance of the course start date. Please note, nursing applicants also require a DBS Clearance and Occupational Health Enhanced Disclosure check
