Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?
I love the city, the social life and the fact that it is not too far away from my hometown.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
I love socialising with friends. I live in Jesmond which is the perfect student area with lots to do. I love Newcastle and the people that I have met who live here already, as well as the students. The people are friendly and the night life is amazing!
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
I am impressed by the university and the courses that Northumbria offer.
Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
Yes, there are plenty of activities put on at the start of the year which give you the opportunity to meet new people and socialise with other people starting university at the same time.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?
I study the MLaw course, and I couldn't have chose a better law course. This particular route put Northumbria students ahead of the rest giving us the experience and knowledge that we need to start working in practice. It also avoids all the additional fees of paying for a separate LPC.
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
Although I have not seen her very much, when my Dad died in my second year at university Susan Wolfe (Law tutor) was very helpful and supported me through my exams. She has been relatively hard to contact ever since after I had to take a year out, but I will never forget the support she offered me when I was at my lowest.
Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?
Emily Murphy, a former student. She graduated last year and was in my original year before I took a year out from university. She helped me through my studies and worked so hard and her intelligence paid off when she finally got the grade she deserved. She managed to find a fantastic graduate job in London, and it makes me very proud to be associated with her.
What is your favourite place on campus?
The Hub, floor 1 of the Law building. There is a comfy area on the rear side which gives students the chance to wind down at lunch time.
Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?
I used to be on the hockey team but had to quit after the work load on my course became too much for me. I met a lot of new people and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
What is the best thing about your course?
The fact that the LPC is incorporated into the degree and that we graduate with a Masters in law. I also think that the opportunity to work for the Student Law Office is an amazing experience.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
Work hard, it pays off, even when there are set backs (which I have had my fair share of through my studies!) just keep going and relax because success will come with time.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
I would like to move to London. I have acquired good organisational skills from studying law and have the ability to work in a highly pressured environment, something which I think will work to my advantage in a city like London.
Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?
I haven't been on a placement but I have worked in the student law office during my final year at University. I thoroughly enjoy this and it has given me the experience that I need to work in practice.
Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.
There is only the option to do the ERASMUS scheme with law at Northumbria, which I do wish I had chosen.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
Fully research what you want to study and the offers from the University. I am glad I chose Northumbria for Law as it might have changed my future career path choice if I had studied it elsewhere.
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
I have more confidence, find it easy to approach people and I feel that I am also more approachable. I know when I need to work hard and when it is time to relax.

Exciting, challenging, sociable.

Yes, definitely - always, always!
