Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?
I studied at undergraduate level at Northumbria and embraced the opportunity to return.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
Newcastle is an excellent city with a great day and night life and the people are wonderful.
Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
The students of both Northumbria and Newcastle are incredibly friendly and welcoming and this echoes the people who reside in the city.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?
The location of the campus in the city centre and everything being within walking distance as well as the excellent teaching staff and facilities.
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
The staff at the university are excellent and are available any time you need them and not just during scheduled lectures or seminars. They are approachable and experts in their chosen subject and are an invaluable asset.
Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?
The passion of the academic staff is particularly inspiring and you can genuinely tell that they are totally immersed in their subject and thoroughly enjoy teaching it to new students.
What is your favourite place on campus?
The Students' Union is brilliant and very cheap. The research zone in the library is also very quiet and is a great resource for postgraduate students.
Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?
I'm active in a number of student societies such as the Northumbria Human Rights Society and it's nice to be surrounded by people who enjoy extra-curricular learning and experiences that emerge from such societies. I'm also a course representative for the MRes Social Sciences course and I enjoy participating in departmental meetings and other events.
What is the best thing about your course?
The best thing about my course is how it is specifically designed to enable students to progress onto further study and is invaluable for students wishing to pursue doctoral study.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
That research can be fun! I have developed a new love of qualitative research and carrying it out - as well as the writing up after!
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
The course has prepared me for pursuing PhD study if I choose to.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
This is an institution that is constantly improving. It is genuinely an excellent place to study and I've thoroughly enjoyed my years here.
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
I have become more analytical and critical regarding academic research or debates and enjoy debating with people about various issues in society or writing about them. I have become more confident with my own knowledge of my subject.
