Where are you from?

Greece

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I chose Northumbria because it had the programme I wanted to study.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I really like living in Newcastle; my hometown is a port so I like going by the river to relax. I enjoy going to Newcastle library, but also taking a walk through the city which is very lively. The locals are always helpful and very sociable.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

What surprises me the most is how everyone is eager to help me solve any issues I might have. What has impressed me the most is the city itself; I find it very beautiful and it combines everything: the atmosphere of a big city along with nature (parks, ponds, river etc.)

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming?  Was it easy to fit in?

I am really enjoying my studies at Northumbria and I feel like I fitted in from the start. Northumbria has always kept me updated with everything that has been going on.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

First of all, the knowledge I’ve gained from studying this subject has opened new horizons and stimulated the brain for further studies. Secondly, I am very pleased by the lecturers; they are always there for the students and help whenever they can.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

It’s difficult to say but definitely the lecturers have been very helpful, either directly or indirectly, by directing me to the right people.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

Two specific lecturers who have a real connection with the students; I would like to teach like them one day.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My favourite place is the library; I have spent many hours there and I enjoy the fact that there are places where I can have group study, silent study or even grab something to eat.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects?

Unfortunately, the time is limited since I am studying my Masters. But I do go to a school in Blyth, in order to help the students there practice their French. This is thanks to the University, which collaborates with local schools and gives the chance for students to gain experience with their teaching. I am a student rep for my programme, too.

What is the best thing about your course?

The fact that it has given me food for thought, and it still does, that I never imagined before.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

I have learned which are the most important things in teaching.

What do you want to do in the future?  What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would like to teach English in different countries around the world. I believe that I have learned how to research around a topic before starting writing about it.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

To definitely do it. It is worth it for two reasons: first, because of the course itself and second, because it puts you in the position to want to study further and expand your knowledge.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I am definitely more confident than I used to be; I have also improved my writing skills through constant practice.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Fun, constructive, ambitious.

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Absolutely.
