Steven Horsburgh

HLS_Steeven -Horsburgh _Student _MSc -Clinical -Exercise -PhysiologyWhy did you choose the programme?

The programme looked like it involved a good portion of practical elements; something which I think is key in getting a good job. The health side also interested me, particularly the fact that exercise could be used as a preventative measure, as well as treatment, for such a large range of disease.

What appealed to you about Northumbria and studying in Newcastle?

I completed my undergraduate degree at Northumbria, and so I already knew many of the staff. Also, the new Sport Central facility helped to entice me, as the pictures of the facilities looked fantastic.

Favourite thing about University?

The labs in Sport Central which are brand new. Sport Central wasn’t here when I did my undergraduate degree so to have new equipment, in a very professional environment, is great.

What did you like most about the programme?

The large focus on gaining experience in clinical skills, which helps greatly when doing your own research, and will certainly help when it comes to getting a job. The staff are also very helpful.

Do you have any advice for anyone applying for the programme?

The thing that helped me the most was being organised! Plan everything in advance so it doesn’t get on top of you. I wouldn’t have been able to work full-time whilst doing this course if it wasn’t for good time management.
