Where are you from?

 I am from Mumbai, India.

Why did you choose Northumbria University?

 I did my 1^st year in India which was linked with Northumbria University. So it was a great opportunity to be here. 

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is one of the friendliest cities I have ever been to. I love going clubbing at night as it’s filled with students. I also go cycling around exploring the cities.

 What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

 The people around have surprised me the most. I thought the people over here would be rough but it was nothing like that. They are super friendly.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

 Yes. Northumbria University was very welcoming. They had an incredible fresher’s week. It was very easy to fit in as most of the students are living alone and they are in the same situation as I am in, to make friends.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

The various volunteering events held by the students union such as RAG and volunteering Northumbria. Helping the people around is great and the most important thing about joining these events is the reason for most of the friends I have.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

 My family, flatmates and my friends. Literally everyone.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

 My university professors and my friends.

What is your favourite place on campus?

The Student union, no other place can be better than this on campus. To be specific the bean bags in the student union is my spot.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tell us about the highlights?

 I’ve been involved in volunteering events such as RAG and volunteering. Helping people is always a good thing to do. Participating in these events has been a great experience and has made me a lot of friends. I’ve been a part of the mixed martial arts help at Northumbria university which has taught me a lot of self defense.

What is the best thing about your course?

 The practical part is the best thing on my course. Northumbria has top end lab equipment.  I am a person who likes practical work more than theory.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Be yourself. Help people and people will help you.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

 I want to work in an automobile company. I have definitely built my communication skills. Working in a team, leadership roles and have been a quick learner.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Join Northumbria University !!! It’s one of the best universities in the world. And Newcastle has been awarded the most student friendly city in the whole of the UK.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University (e.g. confidence)?

Yes. I’ve become a confident person. The most important thing being an international student is I’ve learnt to take care of myself and handle my own problems by myself. I’ve learnt to live life on my own. I’ve learnt to cook without learning anything. So it’s a big change.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Northumbria - New home.

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

It’s an amazing university. They have so many societies, clubs, different types of sporting activities and an amazing student union. The professors are so helpful. Don’t think anything else, Join Northumbria University.
