Where are you from?

Bolton

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I had previously visited Newcastle a number of times and loved the city. At the open day for Northumbria University all staff and students made my experience very enjoyable as they were all very welcoming.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is great, everything is so local and within walking distance. The town center is great for shopping, the night life is amazing and always buzzing, there are beautiful places to explore during the sunny weather.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The locality of everything, even after moving out of University halls my new house is only a 15 minute walk away from my lecture rooms.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming?  Was it easy to fit in?

Yes very, I was not nervous about making friends and fitting in as everyone in your class had chosen that subject for a reason and everyone within the University had chosen Northumbria for a reason so always have something in common with others.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

The amazing variety of other opportunities available, such as joining societies and volunteer projects.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

Sociology lecturers, many of us have a great yet professional relationship with our tutors and lecturers who are more than happy to help out when help is required.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

Sarah Soppitt, she has helped me constantly throughout this year, even providing me with assessment help and information outside of her working hours.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Students Union, it is a great place to unwind and meet up with friends throughout the day.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects?  Tells us about the highlights?

Yes, in first year I volunteered for the Hospital Arts project and this year took over as project leader! The project has been amazing, doing arts and crafts with children and adults in hospitals.

What is the best thing about your course?

Being able to pick modules more specific to your interests. Also the ability to pick placements and a language as a module option.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

The more I put into things, the more I get out of it.

What do you want to do in the future?  What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

Team management through leading the Hospital Arts Project and Confidence through presentations and speaking at open days.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement?  What were your most memorable experiences?

I have taken part in a Youth Offending Team placement throughout my second year, it has been great to develop further knowledge of criminology and mentor, engage and help young individuals.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Read up on referencing and find out what referencing system your course requires before hand.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Opportunities, Variety, Excitement

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

YES!
