Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?
Modern facilities and new Business School. It is highly recommended city for students and social life as well as a great unversity for sport as I am a keen lacrosse player.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
Great for social activities with a vast array of bars and restaurants. Lovely areas to live in such as Jesmond with a high student population. Shopping is also very good and also close to the coast when the sun comes out.
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
The huge amount of students also in the area. I knew there were two Universities in Newcastle but did not expect there to be so many people. I have enjoyed having everything within walking distance as the city centre isn't that large and have been impressed by the Metro as it allows you to connect with districts around Newcastle and not actually need a car. I have also been impressed with the amount of park areas in Newcastle. WIth it being a city I didn't think there would be areas such as Jesmond Dene where you can go for a nice stroll and not feel like you're in the middle of a city at all.
Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
I found the University very welcoming, especially when I moved into Manor Bank. The student representatives were very helpful and answered lots of questions for me. I also found it useful to join all the freshers groups on facebook to meet new people before I came to the city so I didn't feel 'so alone' having moved far away from home. There are so many people in the area it's hard not to fit in, there are a variety of different personalities.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?
Making new friends and visiting a lively city - Harrogate is a very quiet town in comparison.
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
The placement office have been extremely helpful - especially Christine who I have been liasing with while I have been living in the south for the year.
Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?
Ron Beadle - a lecturer in the Business School. I have really enjoyed his lectures so far and his vast array of knowledge is fantastic. He always has a great story to represent theories also.
What is your favourite place on campus?
Sport Central - the facilities are outstanding and I really enjoy the classes that are offered.
Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?
I joined the womens lacrosse team in my first year and was voted as captain for my second year. This year I have been living in Reading as I am on placement at MINI UK so I have not been able to play for the team, I am looking forward to returning next year, especially as I have now been voted as President of the entire club. I also volunteered for Rag week in my first year where we dressed up and went out on to the streets of Newcastle collecting money for charity.
What is the best thing about your course?
Definitely the option to have a year out in industry. It has taught me so much and made me realise how fantastic university life is.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
Everyone in the group can contribute something different to the project, you just have to work out everyone's strengths and weaknesses and allocate parts of the project accordingly using everyone's best traits.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
I would love to continue on the marketing route for the automotive industry. I believe my time management skills have vastly improved along with team work due to the amount of projects you do for your modules that involve group work.
Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?
My third year has consisted of working in the dealer marketing department at MINI UK. Here, I have undertaken a variety of projects and built on my personal business skills. I have also attended many events such as Goodwood Festival of speed which would definitely by my most memorable moment to date.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
Utilise the great sports facilities as well as all the opportunites the SU gives you. Volunteer for as much as you can and ensure you get the best university experience possible.
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
I have definitely developed a variety of business skills through modules in second year as well as my placement year: time management, team work, self motivation, desire to win.

Busy, eye-opening, sociable!

Yes, if they were studying business / design / were interested in sport.
