Where are you from?

Bishop Auckland

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

Because the university has a fantastic track record.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I love Newcastle. I am from London originally so love the buzz of being near a city. Newcastle's shopping, restaurants and nightlife are amazing.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The people are so friendly from all walks of life. There is a real sense of pride among the people from here.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Very! The induction week was very informative and gave you all the information and more that you could possibly want. There is support for everything from accommodation to academic support.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

My course and the people I have met doing it. I have made friends for life.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

The midwifery tutors have provided so much support and have gone beyond what's required. It is a very hard course and there have been times when I have doubted myself. They have always been there at those times.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

Dr Valarie Larkin who became a Doctorate in midwifery.

What is your favourite place on campus?

The cafe next to the library on coach lane. It has become our sanctuary during busy days.

What is the best thing about your course?

The job satisfaction. I feel very privileged to be looking after women at such a memorable time in their lives.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Self awareness and the responsibility for the people you care for.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would love to establish myself as a midwife and maybe later continue my studies at a postgraduate level within midwifery care.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Do it! You won't be disappointed. I have honestly had the most challenging but most amazing journey.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I am more confident and feel able to communicate effectively. I am more comfortable as a person and feel empowered to make a difference within my career.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Brilliant, challenging, rewarding.
