Abbie WebWhy did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

There was a number of reasons, firstly the recommendations for the institution, everyone I spoke to regarding my university choices put in a good word for Northumbria, from past students to A-Level teachers. Secondly, it was far enough away from home that I could feel independent, but also close enough for me to reach home without any troubles if I needed to. Finally, when I attended my interview it was then that I knew this is where I want to be in September 2013, the building and facilities were outstanding and the tutors where just what I was looking for, friendly and packed with charisma.

What do you think of Newcastle?

LOVE IT! Perfect size to be able to get around without worrying about transport, everything you need is at the heart of the city. Nothing is better than heading down to the Quayside when the sun is out for cocktails and tapas!

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

VERY! I think it helped that my year only has 50 students so it’s very intimate and easy to gel with people. The same applies to the tutors; they are quick to learn everyone's name to ensure you feel welcome and the sense of importance. The first week, 'Welcome Week' is the perfect opportunity to mix with your peers and even students from other courses.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

The tutors, with all having experience in industry and some still working in practice they have all influenced me and inspired me in some way or another.

What is the best thing about your course?

Being able to express yourself. With all design courses it's your personality that is needed to be able to shine within the subject, not grades or qualifications, being able to express your inner emotions and personality into a design concept is rewarding in itself.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?
