An email will be sent to your personal email address when it is time to enrol.
The University sends enrolment emails in batches in the weeks before your programme start date, so you may receive yours at a different time from other students.
To study at Northumbria, all students must be enrolled. As a Carousel Distance Learning student, you can enrol from home and are not required to travel to campus.
Enrolment gives you access to:
- Your Programme site and teaching schedule
- University IT systems
You must complete your enrolment by the deadline provided by your Enrolment Advisor.

If you have forgotten your username, please contact IT Chat. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset this using DUO (UK mobile numbers only) or via IT Chat.
Important information about paying tuition fees during enrolment:
If you are self-funded or using a postgraduate loan (Student Finance England / Student Finance Wales), you will need to pay for your first module during enrolment.
If you are a sponsored student, you must provide a sponsor letter to your Student Success Adviser in advance of your enrolment deadline, otherwise you will be required to pay for your first module during the enrolment task. Please view the article Payment of fees by a sponsor in Ask4Help Online on your Student Portal for further information.
Once you have enrolled, please allow up to 2 working days for your University accounts and systems to become active. You can then:
Access your University email, Blackboard and other systems
You will use a number of systems, platforms and apps during your time at Northumbria. Please use your Northumbria username and password to login to most systems - you can find these details find in your enrolment email.
Emails and other office apps
You will use Microsoft Office / 365 to access emails, file storage and other Office apps such as Word, PowerPoint and Teams. You should check your emails regularly for updates and important announcements about your programme.
Access Blackboard - your Virtual Learning Environment
Your Blackboard programme site is where you will find online resources for your modules, including teaching materials, videos, study notes, discussion boards and blogs. It is also where you will upload assignments, view your grades and receive feedback
University Apps
You should also download the following apps before you arrive:
- DUO Multi-factor authentication - for an extra layer of digital security.
- SafeZone App - which connects you to our security services when you need help.
- NU Connect App - to view your timetable and more on the go.

During your first week you must complete your Carousel induction module and attend your online welcome webinar where you will:
- Engage with your academic leads
- Meet your Student Success Advisor
- Identify a selection of services available to you
- Interact with the other students on the course
- Ask any initial questions you may have
You will receive an email with details so please ensure you check your University emails regularly.
