GCSE English Language Taster Day

Please note that this event has now passed.

We are excited to announce a new GCSE English Language Taster Day, which will take place at our City Campus, in March. The event is free and has limited spaces and therefore is first come first served.

The schedule for the event can be found below:

Playing with Words: Exploring the Effects of Language (Wednesday 11th March)

We all know that different ways of saying and writing texts have different kinds of effects on hearers and readers. In this study day for students at key stage 4 (years 10 and 11) work on interactive activities exploring ways of describing particular uses of language and of exploring their effects. Academic experts in English language and literature present ideas and techniques which students apply in describing and investigating texts. Students will be able to apply these techniques themselves after the study day and in their GCSE English studies. The day will also provide students with a sense of the fun and interest of studying English at A Level and at university.

1030: Welcome and Orientation

1100: Playing With Texts: Interactive Workshop Activities

1300: Lunch and Optional Campus/Library Tours
