NU ALLSTARS

NU ALLSTARS

NU ALLSTARS is a multifaceted partnership offer for schools in the North East of England. The partnership includes a range of benefits in support of Access, Life, Learning, Supporting Transition, Attainment Raising, and Study (ALLSTARS). The scheme offers students an extensive package of activities and guidance, designed to build knowledge, skills, and opportunities and to support their progression into higher education, with a focus on Northumbria University. Each partner school/college has access to several benefits including outreach sessions delivered by Northumbria staff, priority access to taster days on-campus, and financial awards including school/college sponsorship and a scholarship for one student from each partner institution.

A key outcome of the NU ALLSTARS programme is to establish long-term partnerships with schools and colleges across the region to raise the aspirations of young people in key sectors that require new skills. As an example, Bede Academy, which was one of 40 schools across the region partnered with Northumbria University through the scheme, has worked with the University to establish a new T-level course that will encourage more young people to work in the NHS, health and social care sector, through alternative pathways to A Levels and apprenticeships.

Santander Universities UK is a current corporate supporter of the NU ALLSTARS programme, funding scholarships for 24 students. The University is seeking additional philanthropic partners to continue its work with existing schools and extend its partnership to more schools and colleges across the North East and Yorkshire. Over the next five years, £580,000 is required to support this programme.

‘The NU ALL STARS Scholarship has been a fantastic opportunity for me. At the welcome event, I had the chance to network with the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Education and meet prominent members of the SABB Team who shared their stories and tips with me. Additionally, it allowed me to automatically qualify for an interview and train to become a student outreach representative, allowing me to inform prospective students about the university, which provides flexible work alongside my studies.’

– Jack Brent, LLB Law

‘The NU Allstars programme has provided me with a welcoming sense of recognition, helping me to settle quickly into university life. All academic praise received from Northumbria, as well as my previous place of education, has been fulfilling and encouraging to hear. Support has also been offered by the recruitment/ progression teams to ensure I advance with similar success. The initiation event was held formally, which gave a greater sense of importance and accomplishment. Further to this, the scholarship has offered useful monetary benefits which have assisted my studies and general life. I am very grateful to have been nominated for this programme.’
