What will I learn on this module?
This module supports you in understanding the professional basis of midwifery and locating, accessing and interpreting the evidence base that informs high quality midwifery care. Professional and academic communication approaches are rehearsed, and you are guided to develop reflective skills to support the integration of theory with your practice learning exposure in the first year of your midwifery programme. You will develop and understanding of the values required by professional midwifery practice and consider examples from practice. Throughout the module you will consider ways to build effective professional communication skills such as academic writing.

You will try out a range of learning activities, including giving and receiving peer feedback, at several points on your journey towards the module assessment.

How will I be assessed?
Formative assessment:
You will take part in annotation exercises and gain peer and module teaching team feedback.
Group podcast preparation activities will also offer you feedback from peers and teaching team as you prepare for assessment.
Summative Assessment:
Respond to the assessment brief provided, using one of the following formats:
Option 1: Annotated bibliography (1500 words of annotations)
Option 2: Pre-recorded podcast presentation (15 minutes) submitted via Turnitin.
