This course welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, including those without prior experience in business or analytics. It enables you to gain a broad set of business skills alongside specialised knowledge in analytics, preparing you for roles across different industries.
Through collaborations with local partners, you will be attain real-world experience and insights into entrepreneurship and innovation from guest speakers. You will learn how to work effectively in dynamic teams, adapt a design-oriented approach to problem-solving, and lead with an entrepreneurial mindset.
You will have the opportunity to learn about the principles, theories and practices employed by entrepreneurial and innovative organisations. This includes frameworks for reviewing, reflecting on, analysing and critiquing your own entrepreneurial mindset, intentions and potential ventures.
The course culminates in either a Masters Dissertation, Management Inquiry, or a Consultancy Project where you will address an issed faced by a real client. Throughout the course, you will acquire business intelligence knowledge and develop data insights supported by a strong analytics toolbox.

The Business Analytics Masters is delivered via lectures, seminars, workshops and one-to-one sessions. From the outset you will apply academic knowledge to real life business issues via tutorial-based activities, case discussions and group-work sessions. You will also enjoy guest lectures from practitioners where you will have the opportunity to engage with industry.
To complement the formal modules we focus on developing your key capability skills. This includes a residential day for the leadership and team-building event, which is in the first semester, which is in the first semester as part of a module called Leadership and Management Development, which is aimed at strengthening skills in team working, emotional and cultural intelligence, self-reflection, independent learning and critical thinking.
You will be assessed through a combination of personal development planning, group and peer assessments, and reflective reports as well as traditional exams and essays. This will help you to become an independent, reflective and critical thinker who is culturally and ethically aware, with strong leadership and management capabilities.

The University has invested heavily in IT labs and facilities. You’ll use a variety of analytics software such as KNIME, R, ARIS Express Business Process Modelling, SAS, SPSS, Microsoft Project and Google Analytics.
Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is embedded throughout the course with tools such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists that will guide your preparation for seminars and independent research. Our use of lecture capture software will help you revise challenging material.
At Northumbria it’s easy to put your learning into practice, opportunities for experiential learning are available through our Student Engagement Centre which promotes volunteering and placements. The Business Clinic enables our students to participate in a ‘consultancy firm’ to provide advice for our region’s businesses.

As part of this course you will build a portfolio of materials that can be presented to employers to demonstrate your development and appropriateness for roles in the business analytics field, the content of which will be informed by the work you undertake in the modules you study.
You may decide you want to start up your own business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university. This course is also the ideal stepping stone if you’re interested in a career in academic research, and successful graduates may be eligible for advanced entry onto our PhD or DBA programmes.
Whatever you decide to do, you will have the transferable skills that employers expect from a Master’s graduate from Northumbria University. These include the ability to tackle complex issues through conceptualisation and undertaking research, the ability to contribute to new processes and knowledge, and the ability to formulate balanced judgements when considering incomplete or ambiguous data.

A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree or equivalent, or substantial experience of working in a business organisation.

English Language requirements:
International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*).

Full UK Fee: £12,660
Tuition fees in the academic year 2027/28* will be £10,050. Fees are set in line with the UK Government's tuition fee cap. The University may increase fees in subsequent years in line with any changes to the tuition fee cap. Increases will be linked to inflation. For example, increases may be linked to RPIX (Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments) Students will be notified of any increase ahead of it taking effect. Student fee loans rise in line with the tuition fees cap.

Full International Fee: £21,500
This is the tuition fee for your first year of study. You should expect to pay tuition fees for every year of study. The University may increase fees in the second and subsequent years of your course at our discretion in line with any inflationary or other uplift. Students will be notified of any increase ahead of it taking effect.

Full time Courses are primarily delivered via on-campus face to face learning but could include elements of online learning.
