SQE2 Preparation Course
This course provides skills training to help you prepare to sit the SQE2, the second set of assessments you need to pass to become a solicitor. The programme allows you to practice and develop your legal skills in all the relevant legal contexts assessed by SQE2 through a combination of face-to-face teaching and online supplementary materials.
SQE2 tests the written skills of legal writing, legal drafting, legal research and case and matter analysis and the oral skills of advocacy and interviewing. All of these skills will be covered and teaching sessions and SQE2 style assessments and feedback will allow you to practice applying your knowledge and skills to meet the SQE2 criteria.
The course will run twice per year so you can pick which start date is most convenient for you. The course will run in semester 1 (September – December) and again in semester 2 (January to May). Each delivery will last for 12 weeks in total, with students attending one day per week, except for week 11 where there will be two days of teaching. There will be 13 teaching days in total over the course. Teaching will take place at Northumbria Law School on Northumbria University’s campus in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The course will allow you to continue working alongside your studies where relevant.
You must have already passed SQE1 to apply for this course. The course is likely to be particularly useful for people already working in practice who intend to sit the SQE2 assessment and would like some additional training and support to prepare. Note you will be responsible for booking and arranging the timing and location of your SQE2 assessment.
