Northumbria’s research in Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy, led from our Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, has a broad range of activity reflecting our wide discipline base, with two major thematic areas. 

Applied Health & Social Care research, primarily based within the closely integrated Departments of Nursing, Midwifery & Health, and Social Work, Education & Community Wellbeing. Areas of research include: 

  • Care Innovation & Organisation  
  • Health & Social Wellbeing  
  • Workforce & Practice Development 

Cellular & Molecular Sciences research in the Department of Applied Sciences. Areas of research include: 

  • Chemistry Research & Innovation  
  • Exploring & Exploiting Microbial Diversity 
  • Nutrition & Food 
  • Translational Biosciences
