Northumbria University’s partnership activity in the West Indies is focused in Grenada, with our flagship partnership with St. George’s University (SGU).

St. George’s University, Grenada

Founded as an independent School of Medicine in 1976, SGU opened its doors to students in January 1977 and has since evolved into a centre of international education, drawing students and faculty from 150 countries to the Caribbean island of Grenada in the West Indies. 

SGU campus

Through this innovative partnership, students spend up to three years of their medical education at Northumbria University’s campus in Newcastle upon Tyne, before transferring to SGU’s campus in Grenada.  Students also have the opportunity to return to the UK and complete up to two years of clinical rotations.
