Dr Zi Qian

Assistant Professor

Department: Mechanical and Construction Engineering

Dr Zi Qian joined Northumbria University as a Lecturer in Mechanical and Architectural Engineering in September 2018. Prior to joining Northumbria, Dr Qian received her PhD from Newcastle University in the research field of Subway Climatology in 2017. During her PhD, she has worked two years for an EPSRC project as a Research Assistant in Sustainable Building and Environment at School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape and following next two years on EPSRC project as a Research Associate in Energy optimisation at NewRail, School of Engineering at Newcastle University.

Dr Qian main research interests are in Subway Climatology, Air Quality, Sustainable Building and Microclimate, Low Carbon Thermal Technology, Building Performance Simulation and Numerical Modelling.

Achievements:

  • Best Academic Research Award on the Rail Category at 6th European Transport Research Conference at Warsaw, Poland. 18th-21st April 2016.
  • Second prize at Railway Division Young Engineers Presentation Competition 2015 The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK. 14th January 2015.
  • Second prize for Best Academic Presentation competition at Next Generation Rail Conference, Coventry, UK. 1st-3rd July 2015.
