School: Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation

Dan is Associate Head of School (Education) in the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation. He started teaching at Teesside University before taking a graduate teaching assistant position at the University of Hull whilst studying for his PhD titled ‘The Leukocyte Expressed Heat Shock Protein Response to Exercise Following the Induction of a Pre-Exercise Alkalosis’. He subsequently contributed to a Higher Education foundation course in Biomedical Science at Sunderland College before becoming Programme Leader for Bioscience and Biochemistry at the University Centre in Scunthorpe before joining Northumbria University in 2016.

Dan's main teaching and research interests are in the areas of nutrition and physiology for health and performance, with a focus most recently on nutrition education. He also conducts research on Higher Education teaching and learning and leads the department's SER pedgagogy research group.
