Prof Dilek Onkal

Dilek Önkal is Professor of Business Information Systems and Analytics and Head of Subject for Analytics at the Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University.  Prof. Önkal received her B.A. (summa cum laude) from Boğaziçi University and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, where she taught prior to joining Bilkent University in 1988. She was an academic visitor at Oxford University Department of Economics (2006-2007) and an associate member of the Nuffield College (2006-2007, 2018); she was a visiting professor at University of Bath (2009-2018) and an Honorary Research Fellow at UCL (2015-2022).  Prof. Önkal previously held positions of Associate Dean of Research and Knowledge Transfer and Professor of Decision and Organisational Science at the Faculty of Management & Law at University of Bradford, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Bilkent University and Chair of Supply Chain Management and Director of OASIS (Operations and Supply Chain Systems) Research Centre at Brunel Business School, Brunel University.  She was a Director of the International Institute of Forecasters (2006-2014),  Editor of International Journal of Forecasting (2015-2019), and Associate Editor of IJF (2002-2015).  Prof. Önkal is currently a member of the Editorial Boards of both Futures and Foresight Science and Forecasting.  She is also an Associate Editor of the IMA Journal of Management Mathematics and a member of the Committee of Professors in Operational Research (COPIOR).   Her research focuses on the role of judgment in forecasting and strengthening the synergies with scenarios and decision making.  Her work has appeared in journals such as Organizational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes, European Journal of Operational Research, Decision Sciences, Risk Analysis, International Journal of Forecasting, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Decision Support Systems, Judgment and Behavioral Decision Making, Futures and Foresight Science, Journal of Forecasting, Omega, Forecasting, Foresight: The International Journal of Applied Forecasting, Frontiers in Finance and Economics, International Federation of Technical Analysts Journal, and Journal of Business Ethics,  along with various book chapters. She is a reviewer for grant councils such as the Economic & Social Research Council, The British Academy, European Science Foundation. Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council, and Hong Kong Research Grants Council in addition to many psychology, economics and business journals.  Prof. Önkal is a Fellow and Distinguished Researcher of the International Institute of Forecasters and is a member of the Foresight Advisory Board.
