Dr Cara Hatcher

Assistant Professor

Department: Architecture and Built Environment

I have been with the university for 13 years and previous to my appointment, I worked in a variety of disciplines within the field of surveying. I graduated from Kingston University in 2004 from the Real Estate Management sandwich degree. I returned to the North East of England to continue my professional training and became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 2006. Since qualifying as a member of the RICS, I have worked for local and national companies throughout the region and Scotland covering valuation in both residential and commercial sectors, leisure property such as golf clubs, care homes and hotels, development including Newcastle Quayside, rural and residential farming property in the borders of Scotland and energy performance.

Since joining the university I have become a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice and latterly awarded my doctorate in business administration.

My current areas of research are housing for the older people population, real estate law and EDI in surveying.
